What is a CA?

Behind every great organisation lies an even greater team of accountants. More than just bean counters and pencil pushers, accountants are responsible for the foundation of every business.

Now more than ever, the accountant's role is in the limelight.  Chartered Accountants (CA) are leaders who can do more than balance the books - they fit the role of senior management who can use financial information to help the organisation succeed.

The Chartered Accountant designation is recognised internationally. These professionals are also able to include overseas work experience as options in their career choices!

Chartered Accountants work in commerce (40%), public practice (40%), government and academia.  They include the Chief Financial Officers of 60% of Australia’s Top 500 companies, and all of the top 100 ASX-listed companies in Australia are audited by Chartered Accountants.

Becoming a CA…

Becoming a Chartered Accountant opens doors.   Whether it's in public practice or commerce, a career in Chartered Accounting gives professionals the chance to work in key strategic roles – all with great earning potential.

At a time when organisations are increasingly focused on the bottom line, professionals with accounting qualifications are very much in demand.  Not only in accounting firms, but at all levels of business and government, Chartered Accountants are valued for their commercial acumen and analytical thinking in diverse fields.

This is where the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA)program comes in: CAs have a reputation for being ethical, thorough, and able to see past the numbers to the larger business environment.  Because of this, the CA program is seeking well-rounded, high-achieving university graduates.

Even though obtaining your CA designation is comparable to getting a graduate degree, you won't have to drop out of the workforce to earn it.  The bulk of the program takes place during the practical work experience requirement in accounting firms.

The Program combines innovative postgraduate training with mentored work experience to help you develop the right balance of practical experience and analytical skills needed to be a successful business leader.

The objective of this program is to ensure that you meet the CA program'shigh standards and to produce accountants with superior technical skills, real business ability and an exciting future.  The technical knowledge you acquire in the Chartered Accountants Program fits you for a role as a business adviser anywhere you choose.

Chartered Accountants bring their analytic expertise to fields as diverse as strategic planning, market analysis, compliance, change management and the use of information technology.

The one thing they all have in common is meeting the high academic, professional, and ethical standards for membership of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia - the most-respected national professional accountancy body.

Because the Chartered Accountant designation is recognised internationally, these professionals are also able to include overseas work experience as options in their career choices.

Chartered Accountants are the only Australian members of the Global Accounting Alliance (GAA).  The GAA brings together the ten pre-eminent professional accounting member bodies in Australia, the United States, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Ireland, Scotland, Hong Kong, England & Wales and Japan.  The GAA represents over 750,000 of the world's leading accountants.

The Chartered Accountant qualification means you can access career opportunities and reciprocal benefits in major capital markets around the world.
